You may spend more time with your business than your family, at times. Your business is your family. It is your livelihood. The people that work for you are important to your success and you need to take great care of them, no different than your family at home. If you don’t already have an HR plan for your business now is the time to make one.  Once you have those key elements in place to run a great company, you can begin to have fun. Here are a few tips to plan the best outing for your employees!

1. Get Away From The Shop.

No different than a family vacation, or a day at the amusement park, when you leave your shop you reduce stress about the business. Pick a location that is local- it doesn’t have to break the bank. It can be a park for a barbeque or a restaurant around the block. When you step away, your employees know that for that moment, the business is not your priority, they are.

2.  Put it On A Calendar.

Let everyone in your company know when the event is going to be, and make it a point to know this is mandatory fun. As long as you schedule these far in advance, there is no reason that your employees should not want to be there. They should appreciate you making an effort, as much as you appreciate their hard work. Plan it out well in advance and take their time into account so they can plan accordingly. If you don’t have the luxury of taking time off during the workday, you can schedule it on nights and weekends.

3.  Get Your Staff’s Input.

Find a few leaders in your business and motivate them to help you plan the event. Get their ideas, and let them lead from the front. If they come up with it, it will be better. Let them take ownership over it so they can rally the rest of the team.

4. Vary The Activity.

Maybe you start with an escape room one month, then you try laser tagging the next, or possibly a dinner here or there. Don’t do the same thing every time. At the same time, you don’t have to shell out a ridiculous amount of money on each event. Plan a few upscale events, and a few relaxed ones. The idea here is to keep it special each and every time. Perhaps you do a few activities that are team building oriented. You might follow it up with a seminar on how to work better together. It doesn’t have to be that formal every single time.

5. Make It The Norm.

Regardless of what you do, begin to create a habit of positive culture through these events. It can be once a month or once a quarter to start, but let your employees know that their social wellbeing is important to you and that you want to enjoy time with them as if they were your family. If your staff sees that you are trying, they will work harder with you. Companies thrive because of great culture, so begin to act like the company you want to work for.
